Bluesky has introduced an age verification feature for users of its social media platform in the UK to comply with the country's Online Safety Act.
According to a Friday post by The Verge , Bluesky stated on its blog that platform users can verify their age by scanning their face, uploading an ID card, or entering payment card details.
Bluesky will perform age verification through Kid Web Services (KWS), a tool owned by Epic Games that developers can use to implement age verification and parental controls on their platforms.
Users who do not wish to undergo age verification or are under 18 years of age can still have a Bluesky account, but with restrictions on certain features.
In this case, Bluesky will block “adult-appropriate content” and disable certain features, such as direct messaging.
