Chinese police uncovered 1.739 million cases of telecom fraud and arrested 366,000 suspects, including 3,442 major financiers and core members of criminal groups, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), senior police officer Jiang Guoli said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Police and related departments intercepted 12.41 billion fraudulent calls and 10.93 billion fraudulent text messages over the past five years, Jiang said at a press conference.
During this period, Chinese police also deepened law enforcement cooperation with international partners, sending task forces to countries such as Myanmar, Thailand, and Cambodia to strengthen joint operations against telecom fraud cases, Jiang added."These efforts have resulted in the dismantling of more than 2,000 overseas fraud centers and the arrest of over 80,000 suspects," he added.
Despite significant progress domestically, Jiang warned that the current situation of overseas telecom fraud remains "serious and complex."
He urged the public to remain vigilant against scams such as high-paying overseas job offers and to raise security awareness to avoid falling victim to such
