Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono is pushing for the acceleration of the preparation of a number of important regulations, one of which is the draft government regulation on high-speed trains.
AHY said the draft government regulation on high-speed trains would be a guideline in coordinating, regulating, and anticipating various issues that may arise in the process of building and operating high-speed trains.
"Of course, we need to integrate all of this, so that the planning and management of the national cross-modal and cross-regional transportation system will be better in the future," he said.
In addition to the need to accelerate the completion of the revision of the Presidential Regulation regarding high-speed trains, AHY said he also proposed the formation of a special task force to ensure that the implementation of the policy runs optimally in the field.
Regarding the Jakarta-Surabaya high-speed train infrastructure plan, according to AHY, it can be a breakthrough if it can be realized. The plan will continue to be reviewed and will be studied in more detail.
According to him, the fast train infrastructure plan requires a lot of resources and also support from various parties. However, if it can be realized, the Jakarta-Surabaya fast train infrastructure can provide high economic value for the community.
"But if this, once again, can be realized, connecting Jakarta-Surabaya for example, a route used by tens or even hundreds of millions of people, this will be something very, not only monumental but will also provide high economic value," he said.
