This came in an interview Fidan gave to Malaysia's official news channel Bernama, on the sidelines of his participation in the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur.
"We are witnessing extremely painful events for all of us, and we can never forget them," Fidan added. "This is a great failure for humanity in general, but it is an even greater failure for Muslims."
He stressed that Türkiye and Malaysia bear specific responsibilities regarding what is happening in Gaza, praising Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's stance toward the Palestinian people and the occupied territories.
"Gaza has become like a World War II (1939-1945) concentration camp," Fidan noted, "where nearly two million people are being held inside the Strip, the Palestinian people are being deliberately starved, and subjected to harsh conditions. All of this is happening before our eyes, and we cannot allow it to continue."
The Turkish Foreign Minister stressed that "coordinated pressure to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza is essential," asserting that "the absence of action against this kind of barbarism could lead to it reaching us one day, if we do not come together to confront it."
Regarding the reality of the international system, Fidan explained that "the current global system is suffering from a true existential crisis, as any problem occurring anywhere negatively impacts everyone."
He added, "When the international system was established after World War II, there were only 55 countries. Now, the number of countries in the United Nations is 193, yet international institutions are still run with a victorious mentality."
The Turkish Foreign Minister said that these institutions "were designed to serve the interests of the victorious parties and possess broad powers, such as the veto and permanent seats on the Security Council," noting that "no one wants to give up their privileges, even though they conflict with the interests of the rest of the world."
Fidan warned that "adhering to these privileges could lead to a major conflict in the future," emphasizing that humanity must "learn from the mistakes of history, not repeat them," and "realize that peaceful change is necessary to build a just international order."
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American backing, has continued to commit genocide in the Gaza Strip, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, in complete disregard of international appeals and decisions of the International Court of Justice.
To date, the genocide has left more than 195,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women. In addition, more than 10,000 people remain missing, hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and a famine has claimed the lives of many, including dozens of children.
Since March 2, Israel has closed all Gaza crossings to the entry of aid and relief supplies, exacerbating the humanitarian situation of approximately 2.4 million Palestinians living in dire conditions.
