The conference aims to support a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue, with broad international participation.
The announcement was made by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), in which he explained that the conference is being held at the ministerial level, and is co-chaired by the Kingdom and France, based on their firm position in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among which is the establishment of an independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Minister pointed out that the conference complements the Kingdom's efforts to promote a just and comprehensive peace process and implement international legitimacy resolutions related to the two-state solution, ensuring security and stability in the region and opening up prospects for development and prosperity.
Bin Farhan also explained that the conference falls within the efforts of the international coalition to implement the two-state solution, which was launched by Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Norway, and the European Union in September 2024.
In a related context, the official Voice of Palestine radio station quoted Palestinian Deputy Foreign Minister Omar Awadallah on July 13 as saying that Saudi Arabia and France had already begun distributing invitations to attend the conference, scheduled to be held on Monday, July 28, in New York.
The International Palestine Conference was previously scheduled to be held between June 17 and 20. However, it was postponed due to the Israeli attacks on Iran, which began on June 13 and continued for 12 days with US support. This prompted French President Emmanuel Macron to announce the postponement.
Both Israel and the United States oppose the conference. Israel, with American support, has been waging a war on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, involving bombing, starvation, widespread destruction, and forced displacement, in defiance of international calls and International Court of Justice rulings.
The Israeli aggression on Gaza has so far resulted in more than 204,000 deaths and injuries, the majority of whom are children and women. More than 9,000 people are missing and hundreds of thousands have been displaced, amid a famine that has claimed the lives of numerous civilians, according to Palestinian and international sources.
