The Indonesian National Olympic Committee (KONI) is challenging Indonesia's esports sector to establish global dominance through achievements in international championships.
"There are no barriers to development and achievement in esports, so I appreciate and challenge esports athletes to make the Red and White flag fly high and the Indonesian national anthem resound abroad," said Irfan Bachtiar, Deputy IV for Sports Science and Sports Technology at the Central KONI, at the 2025 National Esports League press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He said that the esports branch has continued to grow since it was first competed as an exhibition match at the 2020 Papua PON. At that PON, he said, esports matches even excited the public, adding to the excitement of the largest multi-sport event in the country.
