The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs stated that the trade agreement between Indonesia and the United States is not a form of free transfer of personal data, but rather serves as a legal basis for managing the flow of personal data across borders.
"The agreement in question can actually serve as a legal basis for protecting Indonesian citizens' personal data when using digital services provided by US-based companies, such as search engines, social media, cloud services , and e-commerce ," said Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid in an official written statement.
As previously reported, United States (US) President Donald Trump announced important points in the import tariff agreement agreed with the Indonesian Government, one of which mentioned the transfer of personal data.
