The Ministry of Communication and Digital utilizes frequencies and satellites for 5G expansion.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital is utilizing the frequency spectrum and preparing a technology-based approach, such as the use of satellites, in an effort to expand 5G network coverage to remote areas of Indonesia.

The Director General of Digital Infrastructure at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Technology, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, stated that 5G network coverage in Indonesia is currently still considered low.

"Currently, 5G coverage data is based on the population, which is 8.92 percent. Only 4.4 percent of residential areas are covered by 5G signals. This is still very low compared to 4G, which has reached 97 percent," Wayan said when contacted.

One concrete step being prepared is the release of frequency spectrum in the 2.6 GHz band which will be used to expand 5G services to various regions.

"One of the future solutions to accelerate this is to release frequencies in the 2.6 GHz band," said Wayan.
