The Israeli occupation forces killed a Palestinian child and injured a young man on Tuesday evening during a raid on the town of Qabatiya, south of Jenin, in the northern West Bank.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced in a brief statement that "the child Ibrahim Majed Ali Nasr (16 years old) was martyred by the occupation forces' bullets in Qabatiya."
Prior to the Ministry of Health's statement, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a statement that its crews had transported the child, Ibrahim, to the hospital "after he was shot in the chest with live ammunition during the occupation forces' raid on Qabatiya."
For its part, the official Palestinian news agency, WAFA, reported that a young man was also injured in the same raid and was taken to the hospital, without specifying the nature or severity of his injury. The agency reported that "occupation forces stormed the town in several military vehicles from more than one entrance, conducted foot patrols in its streets, launched a drone in the sky, and raided a house, without any arrests being reported."
She noted that clashes broke out "between occupation soldiers and unarmed civilians, during which soldiers fired live and rubber-coated metal bullets, resulting in the injury of the child and the young man."
In a related development, the Israeli occupation army imposed a siege on two Palestinian hospitals in the city of Nablus, north of the occupied West Bank, at midnight Tuesday-Wednesday.
The official Palestinian news agency, WAFA, reported that "the occupation forces stormed the city of Nablus, surrounded Rafidia Hospital, and took up positions near the emergency entrances, while firing sound bombs. They also surrounded the Arab Specialized Hospital." Eyewitnesses told Anadolu Agency that Israeli military vehicles stormed Nablus simultaneously, heading towards Rafidia and Arab Hospitals, and besieging them.
As part of the escalation, the Israeli Knesset is scheduled to vote today, Wednesday, on a draft resolution supporting the imposition of what it calls "Israeli sovereignty" over the West Bank.
Channel 12 reported that the draft resolution was submitted by members of the ruling coalition before the Knesset's recess and enjoys explicit support from prominent ministers, including Energy Minister Eli Cohen, who said, "The time has come for sovereignty over the West Bank."
For his part, Israeli Justice Minister Yariv Levin, speaking at the conference, said that Israel faces a "historic opportunity" that must not be missed to apply full sovereignty over "Judea and Samaria." He added, "We need swift action, and we must not give up. Sovereignty must extend to all settlements."
In parallel with the genocide in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army and settlers in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, killed more than 1,002 Palestinians, injured nearly 7,000, and arrested more than 18,000, according to Palestinian data.
With full American support, Israel has been committing genocidal crimes in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 201,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands displaced.
