The United States Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is reportedly developing an artificial intelligence (AI) tool designed to cut up to half of all applicable federal regulations.
According to a report by The Washington Post, as reported by Tech Crunch on Monday, the tool is called the DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool and is targeted at analyzing around 200,000 government regulations to identify which rules are no longer required by law.
The report cites a PowerPoint presentation dated July 1, 2025, which states that the AI tool is expected to complete its mission exactly one year after President Donald Trump returns to the White House. The same source also indicates that the project is already underway.
The internal presentation noted that DOGE AI has been used to review regulations at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and to structure "100 percent of the deregulatory process" at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
A White House spokesperson responded that “no plans have been officially approved or greenlit,” but he nonetheless praised the DOGE team, calling them “the best and brightest in the field.”
The DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool is a new tool currently being developed by DOGE. Other AI tools previously developed by DOGE reportedly have problematic track records, including one that reportedly experienced "hallucinations" regarding the size of a contract at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
