15% of elected judges in BC do not have a judicial career

Mexicali, August 18. On September 1, 148 judges and 17 magistrates of the Baja California Judicial Branch (PJBC) will be sworn in; only 15 percent of the former do not have a judicial career .

Of the 17 judges who will begin their duties, only Manuel Nahum Rodríguez Chávez, former private secretary to Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda, does not have a judicial career.

The Secretary General of the Judicial Council, Rafael Flores Domínguez, said that for judges and magistrates who lack experience as judges, a training program has been implemented depending on the branch they will serve.

"Whether criminal, labor, civil, or other matters, we have offered training courses on the functioning of the State Judicial Branch," he said.

"There are some appeals filed by unsuccessful candidates; we'll have to wait for legal action," he said.

The idea, he said, is to start with a renewed court, in which the current Judicial Council will be merged with the Administrative Council and the Disciplinary Court.

He explained that the restructuring process includes key changes to improve the administration of justice.
