The Senate Justice Committee determined that 986 candidates, out of more than a thousand who registered, meet the suitability and eligibility requirements to run for the position of local electoral court judge.
This extensive list was sent to the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo), where the best candidates will be selected for a vote in the plenary session next week.
In fact, the commission only excluded 18 registered candidates: one for not having Mexican nationality, six for problems with their law degrees, and 11 who are already local electoral magistrates seeking reelection for another seven years.
Fourteen candidates who did not show up for the interviews scheduled for the call were also excluded, as only 999 appeared in the six working groups that were supposed to be formed, given the high number of applicants for the 56 vacancies to be filled in courts across 30 states.
The president of the Justice Commission, Javier Corral Jurado (Morena), recalled that the call for the election of local electoral magistrates clearly established that their function was to examine and present the list of suitable candidates, and the responsibility of selecting the best profiles falls to the Jucopo.
