A 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar caused a bridge to break in Mandalay and buildings to collapse in Bangkok

 






The earthquake was felt strongly in many Southeast Asian countries, including Yunnan, Guangxi, Sichuan, and Guizhou in China. A building under construction in Bangkok collapsed.  According to foreign and Thai media reports, a building under construction for the Thai Audit Bureau collapsed instantly during the earthquake. According to Thai and Chinese media, the building was constructed by ITD-CREC (a consortium consisting of Italian Thai Development Co., Ltd. and China Railway 10th Bureau Group (Thailand) Co., Ltd.). It was a joint project between Italy and China Railway 10th Bureau Group, with China Railway 10th Bureau Group building the company.  Bangkok Post website reported that there were reportedly around 400 workers working at the site at the time.  Reuters reported that Myanmar's ruling military declared a state of emergency in several areas on Friday after an earthquake in the country.








According to Reuters and Thai media, the U.S. Geological Survey recorded a magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Myanmar at 1:20 PM local time on the 28th. The epicenter was 17.2 kilometers from Mandalay at a depth of 10 kilometers. The tremor was felt strongly in Yangon, Myanmar's largest city, and the Sagaing Bridge (Ava Bridge) in Mandalay was damaged.
