Acute childhood hepatitis: Hidalgo records first suspected death

Mexico City, May 19.- The Hidalgo Department of Health (SSH) confirmed that Hidalgo has recorded the first suspected cases of acute childhood hepatitis of unknown origin. One of them, originally from Tulancingo, died this Wednesday in Mexico City.

According to the state agency, there are three suspected cases of acute childhood hepatitis in the municipality of Zacualtipán —a family outbreak—who have also been classified as suspicious and are being monitored at home.

The Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference will determine the type of hepatitis to which the described cases belong.

In an informational card, the Hidalgo Health Secretariat reported that in recent days, five cases of hepatitis were reported and treated at the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

In the case of the minor from Tulancingo, who was transferred to La Raza Hospital where he sadly died, the results of the viral panel from INDRE are still awaited to rule out or confirm severe acute pediatric hepatitis of unknown origin, so the case is still considered a suspected case.

It's worth remembering that this Tuesday, Undersecretary of Health Hugo López Gatell confirmed that there were 21 cases in the country, and that it is not considered a rapidly spreading disease, according to an analysis of data from Mexico and around the world.
