Tijuana, October 2, 2021.- Jaime Bonilla Valdez, governor of Baja California, signed an agreement to benefit fishermen in the region through a coastal fishing registration and permit , to support their family expenses and improve their economy.

The information was released by the head of the General Secretariat of Government ( SGG ) and the Secretary of Sustainable Economy and Tourism ( SEST ), Mario Escobedo Carignan .

The Secretary General stated: “The Governor instructed me to review and achieve this agreement. To do this, we reviewed international treaties , the General Constitution of the Republic, and a series of issues related to the FAO ( Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations ), and based on that, this document was signed, which marks a watershed in the exercise of state sovereignty (…).”

The official also added that through the SEST, fishermen from San Felipe and Ensenada will be registered so they can receive state approval and then carry out fishing activities (which were previously prohibited).
