Britain and Australia warn Israel of plans for a military takeover of Gaza and its humanitarian consequences.

British Energy Ministry official Miata Vanbolle expressed her country's hope on Friday that Israel would reconsider its decision to seize control of Gaza City.

"We believe this decision is wrong, and we hope the Israeli government will reconsider it," Vanbolle told Times Radio. "It threatens to escalate an already terrible and intolerable situation."

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wang said in an official statement: "Australia urges Israel not to pursue this path, which will exacerbate the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza."

Wang stressed that permanent forced displacement is a violation of international law, reiterating her country's call for an immediate ceasefire, ensuring the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid, and the release of those detained by Hamas since the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023.

The Australian minister emphasized that the two-state solution remains the only way to achieve lasting peace, embodied in the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside the state of Israel within internationally recognized borders, living together in peace and security.

The Australian statements came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his government's intention to impose "full security control" over the Gaza Strip, a move that sparked widespread international condemnation due to its legal and humanitarian ramifications.

Australia has not yet joined its Western allies, such as Britain, Canada, and France, in announcing their intention to recognize a Palestinian state, but said it would make a decision "in due course," as it increases its criticism of Israel's actions.

Wang's remarks came in response to Netanyahu's statement that Israel intends to take military control of the entire Gaza Strip during an interview with Fox News on Thursday.

He said that Israel wanted to hand over the Gaza Strip to Arab forces to govern it, without specifying the arrangements for achieving this or which Arab countries might be involved.

Following a meeting of the security cabinet on Friday, Netanyahu's office confirmed approval of a plan to take control of Gaza City.
