Entrepreneur Elon Musk said that his artificial intelligence company, xAI, plans to file a lawsuit against Apple for allegedly manipulating rankings on its App Store service to benefit xAI's rival AI applications.he said Apple had played a political game by not placing the Grok chatbot from X or xAI in the list of recommended iOS applications in the App Store.
Musk also said that he felt he had no choice but to file a lawsuit given the issue.
"Apple is behaving in a way that makes it impossible for any AI company other than OpenAI to reach #1 in the App Store, which is a clear antitrust violation," Musk was quoted as saying by The Verge on Wednesday.
"Why would you refuse to put X or Grok in the 'Must Have' section when X is the #1 news app in the world and Grok is #5 among all apps?" the xAI CEO asked Apple in another post, now pinned to his profile.
Musk has not provided any evidence for his claims, and it is unclear whether he has followed through on his threat and filed a lawsuit against Apple.
Apple has issued a statement regarding how the App Store works.
Bloomberg in its report quoted an unnamed Apple spokesperson as stating that the Apps Store was designed as a fair and bias-free service.
"We showcase thousands of apps through charts, algorithmic recommendations, and curated lists chosen by experts using objective criteria," said the Apple spokesperson.
