Mainland Affairs Council survey: 73% of Taiwanese believe the CCP's infiltration of Taiwan is intensifying, and 70% support requiring representatives to apply to the government before traveling to mainland China

Liang Wenjie, deputy chairman and spokesman of Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council, announced the latest poll at a regular press conference on the 24th. The results showed that Taiwanese people believe that China is unfriendly to Taiwan, and 73.7% of Taiwanese people believe that the CCP's infiltration into Taiwan is becoming more and more serious. The Mainland Affairs Council's official website outlines the survey methodology. The survey was conducted between April 17 and 21, targeting adults aged 20 and above in Taiwan via telephone. A total of 1,099 valid samples were collected. The confidence level was 95%, with a sampling error of ±2.96%. Regarding the recent spate of Communist spy cases, the travel of Taiwanese officials and representatives to China, the applications of Chinese citizens to come to Taiwan, and rhetoric of military unification in Taiwan, could these be part of an infiltration operation? What are the Taiwanese people's thoughts? More than 70% of the people support that legislators or representatives at all levels must apply for permission from the government before traveling to the mainland (70.9%); 67% support the government revoking the residence permits of mainland Chinese spouses who advocate support for the CCP's military reunification of Taiwan and advocate the elimination of the Republic of China in Taiwan, and requiring them to leave the country (67.8%); and more than 56% support the government using whether mainland Chinese applicants to come to Taiwan have a united front background as a criterion for review (56.9%). In addition, 80% of Taiwanese people hope to "broadly maintain the status quo" regarding cross-strait relations. Nearly 85% of the people do not agree with the CCP’s "one country, two systems" proposition (84.4%), more than 80% do not agree with the CCP’s statement that "Taiwan is part of China's territory and Taiwan has never been a country" (82.5%), and do not agree with the CCP's advocacy of adhering to the "one China principle" to promote unification (80.6%). When asked whether the Chinese Communist Party is friendly to the Taiwanese government, 70.9% of Taiwanese people believe it is not friendly. It is worth noting that the survey results also show that 54.4% of Taiwanese people believe that China is not friendly to ordinary Taiwanese people, which is far higher than the friendly option of 31.3%.
