Mexicali, October 2.- Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda led the launch of Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities and called for early detection of the disease to save the lives of patients, as well as the timely performance of mammograms through the State Health Secretariat.
"Every October, cancer awareness events multiply, but the truth is that our campaigns in the state government are ongoing. Throughout the year, we are conducting mammography screenings to support women," the governor said in her address from the UNEME Oncology Unit in Mexicali.
The state leader called on all women to take a few minutes to get a mammogram, which can mean the difference between life and death. She indicated that Mexico currently has a statistic of 19 deaths from breast cancer per 100,000 women aged 20 and older.
She added that, nationwide, 7,640 deaths from breast cancer were recorded in 2021; however, most could have been prevented simply through early self-examination that allowed for timely medical care.
