Mayor of Piedras Negras lashes out at reporter over drug question

Piedras Negras, August 13. The Morena mayor of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Jacobo Rodríguez González , engaged in a tense exchange with a reporter during his morning press conference after she questioned him about his willingness to take a drug test and make the results public.

The journalist recalled that the day before, he himself had spoken out in favor of applying toxicology tests to firefighters and personnel from other municipal departments, and asked him if he would set an example as the highest authority.

Rodríguez responded that drug tests are administered "to all staff," but when the reporter pressed her about his personal situation, he retorted: "You never come to the morning press conference, and today you come here to try to attack me like that. What behavior have you seen in me that makes you think I'm drugged? "

The reporter explained that she was just asking the question, but the mayor insisted: "Why did you ask that question? Did you ask Norma (González, former mayor), or Claudio (Bres Garza, deceased former mayor) that? Who else have you asked? Have you asked Brígido Moreno (federal deputy for Morena), Manolo (Jiménez, governor), or Memo Ruiz (local PRI deputy)? Have you asked them that too?"
