NASA and Google create AI medical assistant for astronauts in space

The United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration is reportedly experimenting with Google to prove the concept of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based medical assistant that astronauts can use to maintain their fitness while on missions in space.

As reported by TechCrunch, Friday (8/8), the experiment called the Crew Medical Officer Digital Assistant (CMO-DA) will help astronauts diagnose and treat symptoms when no doctor is available or when communication to Earth is cut off.

The tool is a multimodal tool that includes speech, text, images, which runs in Google Cloud's Vertex AI environment.
