Residents of El Choropo demand a reconsideration of the landfill relocation.

Mexicali, February 12. Residents of the El Choropo ejido in the Mexicali Valley gathered at the municipal palace on Monday to express their opposition to the government's intention to relocate the Xochimilco garbage transfer center to land in their area.

The protesters argued that placing a garbage transfer center on land near their homes could cause health problems for the population. Although Mayor Norma Bustamante has said the project will be modern and non-polluting, they assert that it would have negative consequences for them. In any case, if it's so modern, she should put it where she lives.

Jesús Héctor Arámbula Navarro, a resident of El Choropo, commented that he does not agree with the installation because they have been working on improving the area for some time, several restaurants have opened, and having a garbage transfer center in the area does not help, and it would devalue the value of their homes and land.

Representing the residents of El Choropo and surrounding areas, community leader Fidelia Valdés Guerrero announced that they will submit a document to the mayor, requesting that she reconsider the project and relocate it to a location that won't impact the residents' quality of life.
