Sam Altman reportedly backs startup Merge Labs

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is reportedly backing the founding of a brain-to-computer interface startup called Merge Labs and raising funding, likely from OpenAI's venture team, for the company, according to anonymous sources quoted by the Financial Times .the startup is estimated to have a valuation of US$850 million or around Rp. 13.8 trillion.

A source familiar with the plans told TechCrunch that talks are still in their early stages and OpenAI has not yet committed to participating, so the terms of the partnership could still change.

Merge Labs is also reported to be working with Alex Blania, the leader of Tools for Humanity (formerly World), an eye-scanning-based digital identity project that allows anyone to verify their authenticity as a human being.
