Mexico City, December 27.- The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) issued a second suspension against the decision of the National Electoral Institute (INE) to postpone the recall exercise.
The decision by Justices Margarita Ríos Farjat and Yasmín Esquivel Mossa—members of the Supreme Court's Recess Commission—was announced after they admitted the constitutional dispute filed by the Legal Counsel of the Presidency of the Republic, which challenged the agreement.
The precautionary measure has the same effect as the one granted last week to the Chamber of Deputies, which filed a constitutional challenge in this same case. At that time, the SCJN provisionally repealed the agreement approved by the INE and ordered it, for the second time, to organize the recall referendum "until its conclusion, with the approved budget of 1.503 billion pesos, which constitutes an indicator of financial viability."
Even on that occasion, the SCJN's Recess Committee stated in an informational card that it had admitted the constitutional dispute filed by the Chamber of Deputies and granted a suspension so that the INE would not postpone the 2021-2022 mandate recall process.
