The Slovenian Foreign Ministry announced, in a post on its X account, that it had summoned the newly appointed Israeli ambassador to Ljubljana, Ruth Cohen Dar, to the ministry.
She added, "The Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has implemented a diplomatic initiative and summoned the Israeli ambassador to Slovenia to protest the dire humanitarian catastrophe resulting from the restriction of urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza," and called on Israel to immediately halt the killing and starvation of civilians.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the death toll from famine and malnutrition had risen to 154 Palestinians, including 89 children, since the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023.
It is estimated that hundreds of other cases are at risk of the same fate as the Israeli blockade continues.
Last week, the World Food Programme warned that "a third of Gaza's population has not eaten for several days," describing the humanitarian situation in the Strip as "unprecedented in terms of levels of hunger and despair."
Despite the backlog of aid trucks at the entrances to Gaza, Israel continues to prevent their entry or control their distribution outside of UN supervision.
In many cases, Israeli occupation forces have fired on civilians gathering for food, killing 1,330 Palestinians and wounding more than 8,818 others since May 27, according to the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip on Thursday.
With American support, Israel is waging a genocidal war in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.
The genocide left more than 207,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 9,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands were displaced, and a famine claimed the lives of many, including dozens of children.
