The ministry said in a statement posted on its official Facebook page that it "categorically denies recent media reports alleging that the government of the Republic of South Sudan is holding discussions with the State of Israel regarding the resettlement of Palestinians from Gaza," adding that "these allegations are baseless and do not reflect the official position or policy of the government of South Sudan."
The Associated Press reported Tuesday that Israel is holding talks with South Sudan about the possibility of "transferring" Palestinians from Gaza to the East African country, as part of a forced displacement plan it is attempting to implement under US sponsorship. This news comes days after the Israeli government approved a "gradual" plan on Friday to occupy the entire Gaza Strip, starting with Gaza City, home to approximately one million Palestinians.
The agency previously noted that Israel and the United States had previously held similar talks with Sudan and Somalia. In March, Somalia denied receiving any proposal from Washington or Tel Aviv to resettle Palestinians there, affirming its categorical rejection of any such move.
