PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir expressed his pride in the performance of the Indonesian U-17 national team during the 2025 Independence Cup held at the North Sumatra Main Stadium, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra.
Erick is proud that Nova Arianto's team is starting to experience the atmosphere of playing against teams above them, such as Tajikistan (106), Uzbekistan (55), and Mali (54). Indonesia itself is ranked 118th.
Teams with this quality will be faced by the U-17 national team during the 2025 U-17 World Cup.
Garuda Muda is in Group H with Honduras (66), Zambia (83), and Brazil (5) which are teams that have four titles in this age group tournament.
"It's amazing for our team to start feeling the pressure from a team that's much better than us. We're in the same group as Brazil," Erick said on his Instagram account on Tuesday.
In the tournament, which was attended by four contestants for the 2025 U-17 World Cup, Indonesia finished as runner-up after one win, one draw, and one loss.
