1 in 4 Baja Californians have been victims of crime


 Tijuana, September 20. In Baja California , 23,796 people were victims of crime for every 100,000 inhabitants. This is the highest rate among the northern Mexican states and above the national average, according to INEGI figures.

The 2024 National Survey on Victimization and Perception of Public Safety (ENVIPE) details that the most frequently committed crimes were fraud, extortion, and robbery or assault on the street or on public transportation.

The perception of insecurity by state in Baja California is 73.5 percent, the second highest on the country's northern border, behind only Tamaulipas, which reports 75.1 percent.

In the rest of the border states, the perception of insecurity is: Sonora 71.5 percent, Chihuahua 67.7 percent, Coahuila 37.6 percent, Nuevo León 72.8 percent.

Regarding the perception of safety when walking alone at night in the vicinity of their homes, Baja California has the lowest percentage, at 36.7 percent. Coahuila, at 52.5 percent, and Tamaulipas, at 47.3 percent, have the highest percentages on the country's northern border.
