Mexico City, May 21.—Starting next Monday, half the country will be on the green epidemiological risk traffic light, according to the Ministry of Health.
There are 16 states in this traffic light: Sonora, Sinaloa, Durango, Coahuila, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Jalisco, Aguascalientes, Morelos, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas, explained Alethse de la Torre, director of the National Center for the Prevention and Control of HIV and AIDS, this Friday.
Presenting the daily report on the evolution of the Covid-19 epidemic, he described the situation as extraordinary and said that 15 states will be in yellow, one, Quintana Roo, in orange, and none in red.
Some states, such as Mexico City, which is currently on the yellow traffic light, are about to move to the green light, explained Hugo López-Gatell, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, in a press conference at the National Palace.
He added that Mexico is approaching 18 weeks of decline in all indicators of COVID-19 epidemic activity, and that this trend is expected to continue for the next two weeks or more.
López-Gatell explained that the number of new cases, the number of hospitalized people, hospital occupancy, the speed at which the epidemic curve is changing, the percentage of positive results from the diagnostic tests being administered, the proportion of recent cases, and the fatality rate of the disease have all decreased.
"We already have a visualization of the next two weeks, and so far it seems that the same downward trend will continue, but we'll see how it develops. For now, we've seen 18 weeks of decline," he said while presenting the daily technical report on the evolution of the epidemic in Mexico.
To date, a cumulative total of 221,256 deaths have been recorded due to COVID-19, and there are an estimated 18,199 active cases in the country.
