Since Thursday dawn, more than 45 people have been killed in Israeli military attacks on the Gaza Strip, targeting the homes and tents of displaced people and those waiting for aid.

Continuous displacement

Meanwhile, Palestinians continue to flee areas where Israeli occupation forces are operating east of Gaza City, heading toward the Sudanese area west of the city, which the army has classified as a red zone.

Residents are rejecting the Israeli army's calls to evacuate the area to the southern part of the Strip. Recently, the occupation has forced the majority of the Strip's population to flee southward, further intensifying the suffering of Gazans who have already been displaced multiple times since the war began. This further tightens the noose on them, as famine, disease, and the general deterioration of conditions throughout the Strip continue.

This comes as the Mawasi area of Khan Yunis has become a hotbed of thirst and overcrowding, amid warnings of the repercussions of Palestinian displacement.

UNICEF mourns childhood

Meanwhile, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warned that "childhood cannot survive" in Gaza City.

"The world is sounding the alarm about what an intensified military offensive in Gaza City could bring, a catastrophe for the nearly one million people still there," UNICEF spokesperson Tess Ingram said in a briefing on Thursday.

"This unimaginable thing is not imminent, it is already here. The escalation is underway," Ingram said, detailing the situation she has faced in the Gaza Strip over the past nine days.

She continued: "Malnutrition and starvation weaken children's bodies, while displacement deprives them of shelter and care, and bombing threatens their every movement. This is what famine looks like in a war zone, and it was everywhere I looked in Gaza City."

Speaking to reporters in New York on Friday via video link from the Gaza Strip, Ingram said, "The youngest and most vulnerable residents of Gaza City are struggling to survive as basic services collapse." She stressed the need to do everything possible to prevent an imminent intensified Israeli military offensive to avert "an unimaginable tragedy." However, she added, "The unbelievable is not imminent, it is already here. The escalation is underway."

She stressed that Gaza City is rapidly becoming a place where childhood cannot survive, and that it has become a city of fear, flight, and funerals.

With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.

The Israeli genocide in Gaza left 64,231 Palestinians dead, 161,583 injured, most of them children and women, more than 9,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and a famine that killed 339 Palestinians, including 124 children.
