The channel quoted unnamed political sources as saying that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had earlier Sunday held an urgent meeting outside the usual agenda, without the participation of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, to discuss steps to respond to the international recognition.
According to the sources, those close to Ben-Gvir considered Netanyahu's moves to reflect "an attempt to soften the demand for imposing Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank."
They added that Ben-Gvir and his allies are demanding a more stringent stance, including accelerating the process of sovereignty and ending the role of the Palestinian Authority, while Netanyahu is seeking to adopt balanced positions that will allow him to maintain the cohesion of the political coalition and avoid domestic and international escalation.
During the meeting, Netanyahu stressed "the importance of full coordination with the administration of US President Donald Trump in responding to the steps to recognize a Palestinian state," according to the channel.
Earlier on Sunday, Britain, Canada, Australia, and Portugal announced their recognition of the State of Palestine, bringing the number of countries to have taken this step to 153 out of 193 UN member states.
