Eight current and former ISSSTE officials are being prosecuted for fraud.

Mexico City, April 28.- Eight current and former officials of the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) were charged with committing fraud totaling 831 m

illion pesos related to the purchase of pacemakers and medical supplies in 2019.

At the request of the Attorney General's Office (FGR), Judge José Artemio Zúñiga Mendoza brought eight individuals involved in the improper payment of invoices to Selecciones Médicas del Centro SA de CV, a Specialty Pharmaceuticals company, one of the companies accused of participating in the monopolization of more than 60 percent of the tenders held in the health sector during the Enrique Peña Nieto administration.

According to information from the Federal Judiciary, after a six-day initial hearing, Judge Zúñiga Mendoza, based at the Northern Prison, ordered the prosecution of the current and former ISSSTE officials involved in the improper payment of 831 million pesos. These included the former ISSSTE legal representative, José Febo Trujeque Ramirez, who served as the Director of Legal Procedures until last March.

The initial hearing took place between April 7 and 25. The judge determined that the defendants, in their capacity as public servants, committed the crime of unlawful misuse of powers and authority.

The court ruling indicates that representatives of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Combating Corruption, part of the FGR, provided sufficient evidence to prove the probable commission of the crimes, and therefore, the case was linked to criminal case 380/2021.
