Communications expert from the Jakarta Veteran National Development University , Dr. Azwar SS MSi, assessed that the disinformation spread on social media throughout the demonstrations was aimed at damaging the government's image.
"In a broader context, politically, the disinformation circulating on social media appears to be designed to tarnish the image of the existing government. This scenario is clearly evident in the patterns of disinformation being spread," Azwar said.
The man who completed his doctoral studies at IPB University, said that disinformation is information that is deliberately created or spread with the aim of misleading, manipulating, or harming certain parties.
The disinformation that is spread is likened to gasoline poured on something, the aim being to bring down certain parties and even assassinate the character of the parties or their families.
"For example, information concerning NasDem Party cadre Ahmad Sahroni, whose house was looted. Residents who came to the scene announced the items they found, including some items that could be considered private," he explained.
