Ruby Alamsyah, a cybersecurity expert and graduate of the University of Indonesia, has warned journalists not to carelessly enter sensitive data into artificial intelligence (AI) platforms.
According to him, information entered into the generative AI platform will be recorded, stored, and reprocessed by the service provider. If the system experiences a misconfiguration or is hacked, sensitive data stored there is at risk of being leaked.
"So, they're recording our data. Sensitive investigative journalist data could be leaked or exposed, for example, due to configuration errors, hacking, or other breaches," Ruby said during a discussion in South Jakarta on Thursday.
He gave the example of journalists who process interview transcripts containing sensitive information, such as corruption cases involving officials, using AI to expose the data to the public due to data leaks.
