Channel 14 reported, citing unnamed informed sources, that the "emergency plan" for the occupied West Bank was prepared at the request of Defense Minister Yisrael Katz.
She noted that the security establishment considers September a "sensitive period," in light of the UN General Assembly meetings and the expected political developments related to the recognition of a Palestinian state.
The sources added that IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir approved the plan, which calls for "freezing operations in the Gaza Strip and moving forces to the West Bank if attacks occur, with the aim of regaining control of the situation."
The far-right-dominated Israeli government is moving toward "annexing" the occupied West Bank, claiming this will be in response to the intention of Western countries, including France, Britain, Australia, Canada, and Belgium, to recognize the State of Palestine during the United Nations General Assembly meetings, which open on September 9.
