The Israeli army said in a statement that Zamir conducted a preliminary investigation into the site of the shooting attack at the King Hussein (Allenby) crossing on the border between the occupied West Bank and Jordan, which resulted in the deaths of two Israeli soldiers before the Jordanian perpetrator was killed.
The occupation army added: "The Chief of Staff ordered the convoys to be halted until the investigation is completed and lessons learned."
The statement quoted Zamir as saying: "Yesterday (Thursday), two of our soldiers were killed here. This is a serious and horrific incident, and we will investigate it thoroughly and draw lessons from it."
He added: "We are on the cusp of the holiday season (beginning next week with Rosh Hashanah, followed by Yom Kippur and Sukkot), a period that requires us to remain alert and strong in defense and attack on all fronts."
Zamir continued, "We will be everywhere we are asked to be to prevent harm to the citizens of the State of Israel," he said.
For its part, the Palestinian General Authority for Borders and Crossings announced on Friday that Israel has closed the Karameh crossing, linking the occupied West Bank and Jordan, for the second day in both directions.
The administration said in a statement that "the occupation authorities closed the Karameh crossing (King Hussein Bridge), forcing departing buses to return to the city of Jericho."
She stated that the crossing "is closed to all incoming and outgoing passengers," following the killing of two Israeli soldiers at the crossing.
On Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the killing of two Israeli soldiers in a shooting attack at the Allenby Bridge crossing.
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority (official) reported on Friday that Netanyahu "directly accused Jordan of responsibility for the attack during a cabinet session held yesterday, Thursday."
Netanyahu claimed during the session that "it was Jordan's responsibility to prevent the attack, but it did not do so."

The authority added that Netanyahu "announced the imposition of new inspection procedures, including requiring aid truck drivers to pass through metal detectors and thorough inspection of the trucks."

The commission continued, citing unnamed Israeli sources, that Jordan "is currently cooperating with the Israeli investigation in this regard."
Following the incident, Jordanian security forces halted travel through the crossing after closing it on the Israeli side, according to a statement by the Public Security Directorate (affiliated with the Ministry of Interior).
In September 2024, the same crossing witnessed a shooting attack carried out by a Jordanian truck driver, resulting in the deaths of three Israelis and the perpetrator.
Jordan is connected to Israel by three border crossings: Sheikh Hussein (Jordan River on the Israeli side), King Hussein Bridge (Allenby), and Wadi Araba (Yitzhak Rabin).
Since last March, Israel has imposed a blockade on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, closing the crossings and allowing only very small quantities of food into the Strip. This has led to widespread famine and a deterioration in humanitarian conditions, as part of a genocide that has affected all aspects of life.
