Gaza: Dozens killed in new Israeli aggression, warning of a humanitarian disaster due to overcrowding of displaced people

The ministry confirmed in a statement that a number of victims remain under the rubble and on the streets, with ambulance and civil defense crews unable to reach them due to the intensity of the shelling and the dangerous conditions on the ground.

This brings the total number of martyrs since October 7, 2023, to 65,174, while the number of injured has reached 166,071.

The ministry also explained that the period from March 18, 2025, to the present day witnessed the martyrdom of 12,622 citizens and the injury of 54,030 others.

Martyrs of livelihood

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced in another statement on Friday that the death toll from malnutrition, resulting from Israel's ongoing starvation policy since October 7, 2023, has risen to 440 Palestinians, including 148 children.

The ministry said in a statement that it had recorded "four deaths due to famine and malnutrition, including one child, in the past 24 hours." This brings the "total number of deaths due to malnutrition to 440 martyrs," including 148 children, since nearly two years of Israeli genocide.

She noted that since the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) declared famine in Gaza last August, "162 deaths, including 33 children, have been recorded."

Continued aggression

Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation army has killed 17 Palestinians, including three children, since dawn on Friday in attacks on the Gaza Strip, coinciding with the detonation of residential buildings with booby-trapped robots north and south of Gaza City.

According to eyewitnesses and medical sources, the Israeli attacks targeted tents housing displaced people, in addition to civilian gatherings in several areas of the Gaza Strip.

In the latest attacks, two Palestinian aid seekers were killed by Israeli army fire near a distribution center in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, while a third was killed in an Israeli bombardment of the town of Al-Qarara, northwest of the city.

Two Palestinians were killed and nine others were injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a civilian gathering in the Sabra neighborhood, southeast of Gaza City. A third Palestinian was killed in an airstrike targeting the Sharaf family's home in the Shati refugee camp, west of the city.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported in a statement that two of its paramedics were injured by a bomb fired by an Israeli Quadcopter drone near Al-Quds Hospital in the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood, southwest of Gaza City. Prior to that, 11 Palestinians were killed in Israeli shelling of various areas across the Gaza Strip.

In the central Gaza Strip, five Palestinians, including a child, were killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting firewood collectors in the north. Another Palestinian was killed and another injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a civilian gathering near the Abu Sarar junction. Another Palestinian was killed and another injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a civilian gathering on Al-Azayzeh Street in Deir al-Balah.

In the northern Gaza Strip, medical sources reported that the Israeli occupation forces killed two Palestinians and wounded others in separate attacks focused on neighborhoods in Gaza City. Several Palestinians were also wounded in Israeli shelling that targeted a tent near the Tawhid Mosque in the Shati refugee camp, and in artillery shelling that targeted the vicinity of the Sousi junction.

At dawn, the occupation army blew up a number of booby-trapped "robot" vehicles in buildings and facilities surrounding the intelligence area northwest of Gaza City, and the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood southwest of the city.

Displacement exacerbates human suffering

In a related development, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Friday that the cost of displacement from Gaza City to the southern Gaza Strip amounts to $3,180, amid overcrowding in tents and the lack of income for residents.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) added in a blog post on the American company X that "the cost of displacement in Gaza City under intensive Israeli military operations amounts to $3,180."

She explained that "transportation costs $1,000, purchasing a family tent costs $2,000, and renting the plot of land on which the tent is set up costs $180."

The UN agency added that this comes amid a "fuel shortage and the denial of supplies to UNRWA shelters for nearly seven months" due to the tightened Israeli blockade.

She pointed out that "the spaces are already overcrowded, and it is difficult to find places to set up tents after nearly two years of war, in addition to the fact that Palestinians in Gaza have no income."

For weeks, the Israeli occupation army has been intensifying its bombing of residential towers and buildings in Gaza City, as part of a policy aimed at forcing Palestinians to flee south.

On Tuesday, the Israeli army announced it had launched a "large-scale ground operation" across Gaza City, with the participation of regular and reserve forces from the 98th, 162nd, and 36th divisions. On Wednesday, new Israeli vehicles were spotted northwest of Gaza City, a day after the army announced the start of a large-scale ground operation in the city, as part of Operation Gideon 2.

During Operation "Gideon 1," which ran from May 16 to August 6, Israeli occupation forces were stationed inside the northern Gaza Strip governorate and on the northern outskirts of Gaza City, in addition to the city's eastern neighborhoods (Shuja'iyya, Tuffah, and Zeitoun).

On August 11, the Israeli occupation army launched its attack on the city, starting from the Zeitoun neighborhood (southeast), in an operation later dubbed "Gideon Vehicles 2." The operation included the demolition of homes using booby-trapped robots, artillery shelling, indiscriminate gunfire, and forced displacement.

In its blog post, UNRWA reiterated its demand for "allowing aid to enter and an immediate ceasefire in Gaza."

Last January, Tel Aviv banned UNRWA operations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip after the Knesset voted on the resolution on October 28, 2024, after the Israeli government claimed that agency employees were part of the attacks of October 7, 2023.

UNRWA was established after the Palestinian Nakba in 1948 to assist Palestinian refugees displaced by the declaration of the State of Israel.

The agency operates in five main regions: the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon, providing services to approximately 5.9 million Palestinians.
