Indonesian U-23 national team coach Gerald Vanenburg asked his players not to play nervously when facing a crucial match against South Korea in the 2026 U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers Group J at Gelora Delta Stadium in Sidoarjo.
"You can't win a match if you're nervous. So, you have to try to control it so you don't get too nervous," Vanenburg said while leading the Garuda Muda training at Gelora 10 November Stadium in Surabaya on Monday.
Vanenburg said this based on his experience as a player, when he played 660 times with 168 goals and 156 assists.
In those hundreds of matches, the Dutchman won a series of prestigious trophies, including eight Dutch Erdeivisie trophies and one Champions League.
"And I think we played a lot of games, and that's the way it is. If I talk about my playing days, that's what I think and what a player feels," said the 61-year-old coach.
