Gustavo Sánchez requests leave from the Senate; Max García replaces him.

Mexico City, November 20. Max García , former federal and local deputy, was sworn in as senator, replacing Gustavo Sánchez, who requested leave to step down from office "to attend to matters of a personal nature."

García pledged to continue the National Action Party 's (PAN) legislative agenda on issues such as combating corruption, public safety and justice, economic development, institutional defense, human rights, the environment, and health.

As a first activity, García met with a delegation led by Rafael Fernández de Castro, of the Center for Mexican-American Latino Studies, and Pradeep Khosla, president of the University of California, San Diego, to strengthen ties and collaborate on studies on the Mexico-United States relationship.

Sánchez, who left office on Tuesday, November 19, is not the only PAN member who requested leave from the Senate, as Mauricio Vila resigned from his duties this Wednesday.
