Tijuana, August 18. Federal government officials presented progress on the Housing for Well-being Program, highlighting the confirmation that the Infonavit requirements for people earning between one and two minimum wages have been reduced from 10 to five. The points required for this sector have increased from 1,000 to 100.
During the conference at the National Palace, President Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted that the six-year goal of building 1.8 million homes during her term is distinguished by the fact that these are decent, 60-square-meter homes that will cost 600,000 pesos and will be close to the beneficiaries' workplaces.
In her address, the Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development, Edna Vega, highlighted that the reduction in poverty in the country also had an impact on housing built with substandard materials, including floors, roofs, and walls. The number of these materials has decreased, and 5.8 million people have escaped housing poverty.
Infonavit Director Octavio Romero noted that the cost of the homes is adjusted for people earning between one and two minimum wages. He said the first 4,387 homes will be delivered this year, and 250,000 will be delivered by 2026. The agency plans to build 1.2 million homes during the current administration.
