Mejía Berdeja requests leave to support the revocation

Mexico City. Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, Undersecretary of Security, has requested leave from his post to promote citizen participation in the recall referendum scheduled for April 10.

Federal officials confirmed the granting of the license to Mejía Berdeja, which will be effective until April 8.

The undersecretary is promoting the recall referendum in Coahuila municipalities, which he considers an important exercise for all citizens . During his visit to the municipality of Castaños, he emphasized that the work done by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has been historic.

The official, born in the municipality of Torreón, will hold promotional events in Sabinas and Monclova.

These activities contrast with the actions taken by the governor of Coahuila, Miguel Ángel Riquelme , who during a meeting of the State Political Council asked his party members not to take part in the referendum.

The undersecretary began his political career in his native Coahuila, in the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), where he was a leader of the National Confederation of Popular Organizations and a deputy in the 53rd local legislature.

In 2006, he joined what is now the Citizens' Movement (MC) and became one of the closest associates to the organization's leader, Dante Delgado. He won a federal deputy seat in 2012, representing the fourth district in the state of Guerrero.
