Japanese women's national basketball player Miya Takeuchi won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at the 2025 FIBA U-16 Women's Asia Cup in Malaysia on Sunday night, despite her country only winning a bronze medal.
According to a FIBA report published in Jakarta, Takeuchi has made his country proud, despite not winning the prestigious event.
The 5-foot-10 playmaker won the prestigious award after finishing the tournament as the league's all-time leading scorer in points and assists . He averaged 19.4 points per game (ppg) and 6.6 assists per game (apg), along with 3.8 rebounds per game (rpg) in five games.
The impressive performance included a brilliant performance with 25 points, seven rebounds , and four assists , when leading Japan to a 71-58 victory over China in the third-place match.
