Lima, December 8.—Peru's new president, Dina Boluarte, faces the main challenge of gaining support among the Andean country's political class to build a "reasonable" cabinet, political analyst Fernando Rospigliosi said Wednesday.
The expert argued that it would be enough for the head of state to recruit people who generate "some kind of support" to reach the legislature, society, and the media, in order to carry out her administration.
"Basically, they have to be competent, capable people. If she manages to have people who have the capacity, not only technically, but politically, to manage the state, it could make a difference. Now, I'm not sure I can form a government of that nature," he said.
The former Interior Minister also made this observation after considering that the ousted president, Pedro Castillo, during his year and a half in office, had five cabinets made up mostly of people who lacked the necessary qualifications or were "highly corrupt."It's important to mention that most of the disputes between Congress and Castillo's administration were related precisely to legislators' demands for officials who were qualified for their duties and not linked to irregularities.
Rospigliosi considered this extremely necessary, especially because Boluarte "has no popular support, has many adversaries, and lacks a parliamentary group," which gives him "no political support."
When asked if Boluarte's arrival means the end of the political crisis in Peru, the expert responded that his administration will likely be "unstable," although he maintained that there may be an eventual rapprochement with Congress.
"There may be a rapprochement between the legislative and executive branches, but there will be no stability, that's for sure," warned the former head of the National Intelligence Directorate.
