Guadalajara, July 1, 2022.- Journalist Susana Mendoza Carreño was stabbed shortly before 1:00 p.m. this Friday, suffering injuries to her neck and abdomen . The injuries were classified as serious , but the most recent report indicates that she is in stable condition .
The attack, in which several individuals participated , occurred when he was leaving the Vallarta ejido in Puerto Vallarta , where he had gone to do a live broadcast of the program “ All Voices Count ,” broadcast on Radio Universidad de Guadalajara.
“The director of Radio Universidad in Puerto Vallarta was assaulted and seriously injured. Journalist Susana Carreño was intercepted as she was leaving a broadcast. The presumption is that she was attacked. A vocal critic was stabbed,” Gabriel Torres, general director of Channel 44 of university television and Radio UdeG, posted on social media.
The Jalisco Attorney General's Office also made public the story of her assault, which at 2:30 p.m. reported that Carreño "was attacked with a knife during a robbery this Friday afternoon on the streets of the La Moderna neighborhood in the municipality of Puerto Vallarta."
The institution added that the victim's health condition is "fair to serious" and that according to the initial information obtained, the journalist was with another person when "she was approached by several individuals who robbed her of her belongings as well as the vehicle in which she was traveling (a red Jeep), then stabbed her and fled the scene."
Governor Enrique Alfaro also insisted on social media that Carreño, "a woman I respect and appreciate," was attacked during an attempted robbery.
"The Jalisco Prosecutor's Office and law enforcement agencies are searching for those responsible. I spoke with the rector of the University of Guadalajara (UdeG). I will personally follow up on the case, and, above all, the Jalisco government is monitoring his health."
But that version clashes with the official report from the Puerto Vallarta police, which states that Carreño's red Jeep was not actually at the scene, but that another gray Jeep Cherokee-type vehicle was, "which had damage to its front end." This suggests that the journalist's SUV was rear-ended before she was stabbed.
