Mexico City, July 23.- This Saturday, an anticyclonic circulation in the middle levels of the atmosphere will maintain a warm to hot afternoon atmosphere in most of Mexico, with maximum temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius in Baja California, Chihuahua and Sonora; 40 to 45 degrees Celsius in Campeche, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas and Yucatán; 35 to 40 degrees Celsius in Baja California Sur, Durango, Jalisco, Nayarit, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Tabasco, northern Veracruz and Zacatecas; and 30 to 35 degrees Celsius in Chiapas, Colima, southwestern Mexico State, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Michoacán, Morelos, Oaxaca, Puebla and Querétaro.
This morning, minimum temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees Celsius were recorded in high-altitude areas of Chihuahua, Durango, the State of Mexico, Puebla, Tlaxcala, and Veracruz.
Heavy rains (75 to 150 millimeters) are forecast in regions of Chiapas; very heavy rains (50 to 75 millimeters) are forecast in areas of Chihuahua, Jalisco, Oaxaca, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tabasco, and Veracruz; heavy rains (25 to 50 millimeters) are forecast in areas of Aguascalientes, Campeche, Colima, Durango, the State of Mexico, Guerrero, Michoacán, Nayarit, Puebla, and Zacatecas; and showers (five to 25 millimeters) are forecast in Baja California Sur, Mexico City, Coahuila, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Morelos, Nuevo León, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala, and Yucatán.
Precipitation could include lightning, strong winds, and hail. It could also cause rising river and stream levels, landslides, and flooding in low-lying areas.
Wind gusts of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour are also expected in Baja California Sur, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Sonora, and Tamaulipas, and gusts of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour are expected in Aguascalientes, Baja California, the coast of Campeche, Chihuahua, Durango, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, the coasts of Yucatán, Zacatecas, and the Gulf of California.
The weather conditions will be caused by the Mexican monsoon, which will remain over the northwest of the country, interacting with instability in the upper levels of the atmosphere, Tropical Wave Number 15, which will move over Chiapas and Oaxaca, in combination with the entry of moisture from the Pacific Ocean and a low-pressure channel that will be located over the Campeche Sound and another low-pressure channel extending along the Sierra Madre Occidental to the center of the national territory.
