The Indonesian National Futsal Team has shown significant progress in recent years, achieving various achievements.
From merely an alternative sport to football, futsal has now emerged as a branch that is able to attract public attention with the achievements of the national team.
The seriousness of coaching is evident from the presence of structured, tiered competitions and coaching, starting from the early age level, amateur league, to professional.
The Indonesian Futsal Federation's commitment to establishing a Professional League Operator has led to various leagues such as the Pro Futsal League (PFL), Pro Futsal League 2 (PFL 2), and the Women's Pro Futsal League becoming an important platform for players to hone their skills and become a talent pool for the national team.
The FFI has mapped out the importance of long-term development as a roadmap for Indonesian futsal development. Its philosophy differs from that of the national football team, particularly in player selection.
While naturalized players continue to emerge in football, the policy direction in futsal places greater emphasis on developing local players. This aligns with the vision of cultivating a distinctive Indonesian game identity that is fast, agile, and full of creativity.
The policy of no naturalized players is not simply a practical option, but part of a long-term strategy. Head Coach and Technical Director of the Indonesian National Futsal Team, Hector Souto, believes that the talent of Indonesian futsal players is more than sufficient compared to imported players. As long as national team-level development begins when the players are under 10 years old.
Domestic competition has also been sufficient to supply quality players, as evidenced by several names currently on the air such as Andri Kustiawan and Evan Soumilena.
In terms of achievements, Indonesian futsal has achieved significant success at the Southeast Asian, Asian, and even global levels. The national futsal team has reached the final of the AFF Futsal Cup several times, most recently winning the 2024 ASEAN Futsal Championship in Thailand, following their previous triumph in Vietnam in 2010.
