Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria said that his office is reviewing a proposed rule that each person is only allowed to have one social media account.
"We are currently reviewing this because it is also related to the One Data Indonesia program," Nezar said when met in South Jakarta on Monday.
According to him, having one social media account for one person can be a solution to prevent fraudulent acts in the digital realm.
Furthermore, this option is also considered to make it easier for the government to monitor the digital space for all forms of misinformation and hoaxes.
"That (the one-person-one-account proposal) is one solution, and we're currently reviewing several options. The goal is to further minimize scamming attempts (online fraud), for example, in our online world and also to facilitate our monitoring of misinformation, hoaxes, and so on," Nezar said.
