Tijuana, October 5 – “It won't be until Monday; give me a chance to sort out the issue of the call for proposals,” said Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, regarding the appointment of a new Secretary of Public Security. However, it remains unclear whether Julián Leyzaola, Burgueño Ruiz's choice during the campaign on security, will remain on the shortlist.
After attending the inauguration of the Interim Commander of the Second Military Zone, the mayor spoke to the media, who questioned him about the recent demonstration held by sex workers in the northern zone against the possible appointment of the retired military officer to the Ministry of Public Security.
"I've said it from the very beginning of this administration: we're going to listen to everyone," Burgueño Ruiz asserted. She also mentioned that the workers will hold a meeting with the Secretary General of Government, Arnulfo Guerrero, to discuss their demands and concerns.
Meanwhile, the mayor also confirmed that, pending the appointment of the new Secretary of Security, Fernando Sánchez, who held the position during Montserrat Caballero's administration, is in charge.
