Third death confirmed and 15,000 affected by earthquake in Guerrero



 Acapulco, Gro., September 13.- At the session of the Coordination Table for Peacebuilding held yesterday, the  death of a third person was confirmed as a result of the 7.1 magnitude earthquake  recorded on the night of  September 7 . 

Meanwhile,  PRI Governor Héctor Astudillo  reported that as of yesterday, more than 15,000 people  had been  affected and  at least 7,800 homes had been damaged  as a result of the earthquake in  40 of  Guerrero's 81 municipalities.

The new confirmed victim was a  14-year-old  teenager  from  the town of La Poza, municipality of Acapulco, who died on Saturday due to  injuries  he suffered  when a wall fell on him .

This death was added to that of a  75-year-old woman  living in Las Tortolitas, in the  rural area of ​​Acapulco , whose  adobe wall fell on her  and she died in the clinic in the town of Xaltianguis, and that of a  19-year-old young man  in Coyuca de Benítez, who  lost control of the motorcycle  he was riding without a helmet and fell.

Damage to at least 76 schools and 13 churches

The state executive branch noted that many of the  victims  have come to  their families  , and some others  are sleeping  in the  open air of their homes , which is  made difficult by the rains .

He added that  "we have not yet determined the extent of the damage"  and noted that the Federal Electricity Commission informed him that power had been restored to all towns in the rural area of ​​Acapulco, but not to El Ciruelar, in the municipality of Chilpancingo.

In Acapulco, 13 schools have suffered severe damage, 30 have suffered minor damage, and 33 have suffered moderate damage.

Guerrero's Civil Protection Secretary  ,  Marco César Mayares , reported that  13 religious temples were damaged , most of them  classified by the National Institute of Archaeology and History  as  special architectural centers  and  cultural heritage sites , as well as  69 road damages ; in addition, 52 gas leaks were repaired.
