Trump presents Gaza plan to Arab and Islamic leaders during a meeting attended by Erdogan

The meeting was held behind closed doors on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, with Erdogan and Trump sitting side by side.

In addition to Türkiye and the United States, the meeting was attended by heads of state and government representing Indonesia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Pakistan, and Egypt.

In a brief statement at the start of the meeting, Trump said, "This is my most important meeting to end the war in Gaza."

He explained that the meeting participants will discuss the possibility of stopping the war in Gaza and recovering the Israeli "hostages" held in the Palestinian enclave.

On Tuesday evening, the US President presented an American plan to Arab and Islamic leaders regarding ending the war in Gaza and the future of the Palestinian Strip, during a summit meeting in New York City on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

As he left the meeting, Trump declared, "My meeting with Arab and Muslim leaders regarding Gaza was great," without elaborating.

He added, "This is the most important meeting I'm holding today. I've held 32 meetings in this place," adding, "But this is very important to me because we're going to end something that wasn't supposed to happen," without providing further details.

The Turkish president said the meeting on Gaza was "very fruitful." Speaking to reporters in New York after the meeting, Erdogan said a joint statement from the meeting would be published and that he was "pleased" with its results, but he did not elaborate.

Tel Aviv estimates there are 48 Israeli prisoners in Gaza, 20 of whom are still alive. Meanwhile, approximately 11,100 Palestinians are languishing in its prisons, suffering from torture, starvation, and medical neglect, many of whom have been killed, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected several proposals accepted by Hamas to exchange prisoners and end the war, insisting on continuing the genocide.

The opposition and the prisoners' families assert that Netanyahu is continuing the war to maintain his position, fearing the collapse of his government if the more extreme faction, which opposes ending the war, withdraws.

With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving 65,382 martyrs and 166,985 wounded, most of them children and women, and causing a famine that has killed 442 Palestinians, including 147 children.
